FINE METAL FINISHER AND FOUNDRY ASSISTANT

About Artcast and about the Finishing position:

Artcast Inc. is a Canadian fine-art foundry. We have been making castings for over 55 years for the Canadian market and some of the northern United States. With typically less than 20 employees we are a modest operation by industrial foundry standards. Our clients include many sculptors, municipalities, other businesses, and sometimes government organizations. Our work, scattered across Canada and the world, includes monuments, private collection sculpture, and high-end recognition such as awards and medallions. Having been in business for over 55 years, we have had the opportunity to focus on not only perfecting our process, but also working with advanced technologies. We hope to be able to make additions to our team by finding unique people with a passion for what we do. Our goal is always to find a permanent addition to the team and work with new employees to build their skills.

We are looking for someone to assemble castings, finish the metal surface, and prepare the surface for further treatment.

A good eye for detail, ability to control power tools, and a willingness to learn or say "I don't know" are all assets when it comes to metal finishing. 

Metals we work with:

Primary Metals: Silicon Bronze, Aluminum

Secondary Metals: Fine Pewter, Stainless Steel

Beneficial skills:

Welding GTAW (Tig), Silver Soldering (Oxy Acetylene), Plasma Cutting, Metal Chasing, Metal Grinding, Metal Polishing, Interpersonal Skills.

Typical tasks:

Assembly, Straightening, Retexturing, Reworking, and Fine Surface Finishing of cast bronze sculpture with precision. Repair sculptures and fine ornamental work using welding, filing, grinding, polishing, and soldering. Assist with casting of molten metal and ceramic shell handling during a "Casting Day".

Requirements:

·    Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis

·    Language: English (required)

·    Can reliably commute to Georgetown (Halton Hills) daily

·    Eligible to work in Canada

Job type:

Full Time, Permanent, Salary: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour
